Obituary for Edward Bland

The man. The myth. The legend. Men wanted to be him and women adored him. Edward “Eddie” Bland died on Mischief Night, Oct. 30, 2018. Eddie loved fishing on his boat at Lake Wallenpaupack, peanut butter Funny Bones, Big Bang Theory, The Eagles, beautiful women and Golden Monkey Beer. Not necessarily in that order. He hated hamburgers and hypocrites. Not necessarily in that order.

He was a master craftsman who single-handedly designed and built his own beautiful house from the ground up. Eddie was also great at deep frying a turkey, burning rubber in his Porsche, hitting coke cans at 30 yards with his 45, and making everyone he met feel loved and appreciated. When it came to fixing things, Eddie was the best in the business. Nothing was ever banished in his house, it was simply refurbished. His garage was his Man Cave and you had to be invited in. Talking while he was working could get you in trouble. Eddie was the building inspector in Lehman Township for 16 years and thought of everyone there as family, but it was the shenanigans he pulled with his bothers at Bland Excavating that gave him purpose. Eddie was a modern day pirate who loved to tell stories. And you could be sure that 50 percent of every story was true. You just never knew which 50 percent. He was 100 percent LOVE.

John Wayne was his TV hero and Garth Brooks was his music hero. But it was HIM who was the hero to his three children: Eddie Jr., Jennifer and Alaina, and their spouses Pam, Levi and CJ. His six grandchildren, Ava, Hayley, Lincoln, Reagan, John Edward and Andrew, will forever miss the orange go-cart and grandpa’s hugs. Eddie took a whole lot of whoopings to cover for his brothers, Eugene, Jeffrey, Tommy and Dennis. And ate way too many frozen turkey sandwiches made by his mother, Janice, while working with his brothers for their father, Eugene. Although it didn’t last, he got married when he was young, and he forever respected the woman who brought life to his children. Eddie was no quitter though, he soon gave love another shot. For as much as he loved playing the slot machines, it was in his life with his wife, Cherie, that he hit the real Jackpot. For 29 years his “Cherie My Love” stood next to him “The smartest man in the world.”
