Through the eyes of infant for the very first time, your face looked happy and warm
Intoxicated and arriving late from a going-away party the night that I was born
Looking so joyous and boasting so proud
You just had a son and shouted it loud
with me in your arms, enamored by what ya'll created
I'm hoping it was worth the nine months that you waited

Time passes

Now through the eyes of a child who by now could walk, talk and stand
My Dad is my super hero with the power of farting on command
And just like that with a pull of his finger he’d release gas
My mother thought it to be gross, but we’d just laugh and laugh
You would take me to Shea, LETS GO METS, where’d I learn the importance of orange and blue
You would show me an eclectic love of music and I’d be amazed by the things you can do
All the titles you held at this point from my coach, to my best buddy
And as a kid I always thought I how did I ever get so lucky

Time passes

Now through the eyes of a teen who had all the answers we began to lose our way
It was like you had no time for me and we were at loss for words to say
We began to build a wall between us, never expressing the way we feel
We started to butt heads more often and that’s when ish got real
Constantly at odds, you tended the center of most my woes
Exchanging harsh words to one another until it came to blows,
Trust was gone between us, at this point I felt I had to be weary
No longer my hero at this point you became my greatest adversary
Time passes

Now through the eyes of a man that’s grown
I can now see a side to you I had never ever known
Life made me realize I didn't know it all, and that sometimes that pride goeth before the falI
but you saw this all in your crystal ball
and i sit here and smiling say "yeah Dad, good call",
Now a father myself I'm seeing life through your eyes
Finding out the bonds tween fathers and sons always have lows and highs
Seeing that there is not a thing my boys can do or say
that would ever make me stop loving them and just walk away
A lesson that I learned from you, now matter how hard it got
You always found a way after war to remind me you loved me a lot
although I didn't hear the words back then, now I hear them clear
we may not have always seen eye to eye but you'll always had my rear

Time passes on and you tell me you’re sick
And I don’t want you to go, but it all happens so quick
Spend every day forward tearing down old walls
Concreting our bond and ensuring I call
We’d have one more season cheering for our team
Till one night you’d go to sleep and stay forever in your dream
Sadness in my heart, for my King has fallen
But I know you had to go because the True King was calling
I’ll continue on with your traditions and make you proud from far
And never to be lost again for you are now my guiding star
Your spirit lives on inside my heart, and our bond will never die
And when I’m missing your face, I’ll see you through my eyes.

Love you forever and Always Pop
